Yeah, since I've been away for so long I thought I'd post this idea on here too since it's been rattling around on tumblr for a while now. By no means is this a necessary thing, nor important, and I don't blame you AT ALL if you don't read it. I just find it interesting, since I love psychology so much.

Since I fell ass-over-teakettle in to this funny little fandom including both the TF2 game and Source Filmmaker, I've been browsing other people's endless deviations in SFM on this site. And let me tell you, there are some REALLY REALLY GOOD ONES, so if you like what I'm doing here, holy HELL why aren't you searching it yet?

BUT ANYWAY.

I definitely noticed a trend... pretty much right off. Call it the OCD Libra in me, but I need things to always be fair- if I'm doing a group shot, EVERYONE has to be in it (which is why my Opposites Attack thing is bugging me so much, seeing as I'm missing two models on the girls' side).

And what I noticed was that.... There's probably 30 Scout pictures to every 1 of every other character. I mean, they're all well done so I don't care, but it got me thinking.... WHY are there 30 to 1 of Scout posters?

So this is the psychology part.

First, I assumed there's 3 bits to it- city/country of origin, age/gender, and oddly enough, proportions.

So let's go with city first. He's from Boston, but he's not the only American character in the game. But... odds are, if an American is playing this game (which is made in America and based in America) odds are they'll be a city boy from Boston and not a Texan with 11 doctorates or a psychotic drill sergeant.

So then we come to the second one. Odds are, most of the people playing this game are guys in their 20's or so. Scout fits this description. I mean, give or take two years.... youngest I'm going is 18, though, because he has to be old enough to be in this war, plus we see in one comic (even if they're not considered canon) that he's testifying in court without the need of a parent. I mean, he definitely could have lied, but he doesn't seem like a very good liar (in that same comic, even) so... I'll just go with that.

And, finally, the weirdest of all- proportions. Humans are petty. We like pretty things. I'm not saying the Scout is perfect or anything (far from it, in fact) BUT, compared to all the other characters in this cartoon universe, he's the closest thing we have to normal. Plop him and the Heavy in a crowd in real life New York, and who would blend in the best? Probably Scout.

If you can't tell, I'm pretty much skimming over what I said in this post here- moonlight109.tumblr.com/post/6… so if you want it in more detail, there's always that. But these are the basics. Put them together, and you have the reason why everyone likes using the Scout the most in SFM. Even me. Including the Femscout. They're basically the most versatile.

Keep in mind this doesn't apply to the game of TF2. Class-picking has less to do with what the characters look like and more to do with... well, with what they do. And with what you like to do. I'm not delving in to personality tests on all this shit (though I did see someone made a chart with the 9 ennegrams vs the 9 characters that was AWESOME) but odds are you'll pick a class based on your very basic personality. You think quick and not deep? Pick Scout. You're scared of combat and just want new friends? Pick Medic.

As you can probably tell, I'm usually either the Medic or, in fact, the Engineer. Not in the frey, but still helping, and quite a bit.

SO THERE'S THAT. If you read that, I'm sorry. If you didn't read it.... well, find a bored moment in your day and browse over it if you like.

TTFN, tata for now. :)
